Creating Reference Layer and Importing Art

A technique I’m testing out is to use a reference layer object to get more accurate traces of other assets. Not something need to use

  1. Create a reference layer object (a bit flat plane that’s been subdivided to reduce UV warping)
  2. Set the UVs to the coords of every part of the texture
  3. Take a screenshot of your reference model
  4. Import into aseprite
  5. Sprite > Sprite Size, set the larger of the two dimension to 128
  6. Sprite > Canvas Size, set the other dimension to 128 as well
  7. To improve visibility on details, Edit > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Set Brightness to max.
  8. Palette > New Palette from Sprite
  9. Set the palette color count to 16
  10. Set Advanced Options and change from Octree to Table RGB 5 bits + 3 Alpha
    1. I’ve found better results from this than Octree for color differentiation
  11. Export out as a png

Controls

The smallest possible animation key is currently .24 seconds or 5 frames. You can

Seconds to Frame

Note: currently picoCAD 2 animation keys are in 24fps while it export out at 30fps. Hopefully this’ll be adjusted since currently will have duplicate frames on some keys
